About
Makkink's Flower Farm

Just over ten years ago, our family made the jump over the pond from Holland to Canada. We decided to move to Tillsonburg and raise our four growing boys on a flower farm. Since then, Makkink’s Flower Farm has grown and welcomed visitors to enjoy our farm and all the wonder that comes with cutting their own flowers.

We started with just a few sunflowers and added on more varieties each year. Things really started to take off when co-owner Hilde started visiting the Tillsonburg Farmers’ Market each Saturday in the summer to sell arrangements to the community. Hilde became known as the “Sunflower Lady” and soon had a regular flow of customers coming to purchase her beautiful bouquets and get to know our family.

Of course, over the last ten years, our farm has grown to include not just sunflowers but over forty-five different varieties of flowers! Throughout the growing season, you can find everything from peonies and ranunculus in the spring to dahlias, zinnias, snapdragons, and of course, sunflowers. A few years ago we set up our on-farm shop to sell our flowers out of as well as some other local goods like soaps, candles, and baked goods.

We can’t wait to share our flowers and our love for the farm with you. Thank you so much for supporting local.
